Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XMAS
Caramel and spice up front. Piney something that's probably juniper; I think there's nutmeg and ginger in there, too. Bread and toast, earth and grass in the background a bit. Dimly fruity possibilities emerge more toward the finish.
Medium-bodied or a bit heavier, kinda soft and chewy, gently carbonated. A bit drying, more filling and satisfying than refreshing, with a bit of syrupy-resinous stickiness on the finish. Maybe a dim dim flicker of boozy warmth.
Yum! Big and spicy and festive—intensely so—but manages to hold together pretty well; a bit dominated by the spices, but that's about par for the course for an Xmas beer. Just enough alcohol presence to make things even more celebratory. I knew the instant I saw the announcement for this beer that I wanted a 6-pack (Southern Tier! Making an Xmas beer! A Big One!) and I'm glad I bout it, though I'll miss it until late fall or thereabouts.
