Southern Tier Choklat

Tonight's beer: Southern Tier Choklat

Southern Tier Choklat

Darkish bittersweet chocolate, backed by some caramel and burnt-fruity sweetness, with dark bread and toast kinda in the background. Dim hints of earth and peat. Dark spirits like rum, brandy, whiskey around the periphery. A flicker of coffee on the finish.

Thick, syrupy, dense, with kinda sluggish carbonation. Sticky and chewy, with a long drying finish. Just a slight touch of boozy heat. Filling and satisfying.

Yum. A bit and intense and rich dessert beer, with complex and subtle elements lurking within. So dominated by the chocolate that I don't think I can call it "balanced," but it's clearly what the brewers intended; it holds together plenty well. Pretty drinkable, but more than big enough to work as a sipping beer on a chilly evening.
