Terrapin Oaked Big Hoppy Monster

Tonight's beer: Terrapin Oaked Big Hoppy Monster

Terrapin Oaked Big Hoppy Monster

Citrus and flowers, with flickers of pine; caramel and toast filling in to balance. Traces of vanilla in the background. Bitter to start, then juicy-bready sweet, then a little drier by the finish.

Medium-bodied, on a bit heavier—kinda thick for a hops-focused beer—decently carbonated if a bit smooth and round. Come syrupy-resinous stickiness into and through the finish. Softly drying, kinda refreshing. Virtually zero alcohol presence (for a big beer).

A very drinkable beer, with absolutely no warning of the 9.1% ABV. Not as intense as I would have expected from a beer with the words "hoppy" and "monster" in its name; balanced and integrated, but not all that complex. Tasty enough, but ... lacking something minor, somehow. I wanted to love this beer, but I'm not quite there. Oh comma well.
