Tonight's beer: Ayinger Celebrator
Caramel, toffee/nuts, chocolate: deep and rich to start out; earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness rising up behind. Background threads of dark bread and smoke; a clicker of dried/candied dark fruits.
Bready-thick, rich, smooth, gently-carbonated. A bit chewy and sticky, eventually drying. Strong hings of boozy presence. Filling and satisfying.
A delicious doppelbock, rightfully a classic beer. Intense and complex, balanced and integrated; smooth and rich and kinda dense. It's hard to imagine a better example of "liquid bread." Stupendously drinkable. Goes well with lots of dark and intense foods. Egad, I love this beer.
