Tonight's beer: Jailhouse Saison Reprieve
Citrussy-lemony tartness on pale bread with a smear of caramel. Grassy-floral-earthy-spicy bitterness provides a steady counterpoint. Gently tart, then very dry, with a long bitter finish.
Very light-bodied, with lots of carbonation. Softly puckering, massively drying and quenching, stunningly refreshing. Cleansing and scrubbing but not at all scouting. Just a touch of something flinty-mineral on the back end.
A very nice, extremely drinkable saison. Nothing here—no massive wads of herbs and/or spices, or exotic fruits—just the basics, beautifully integrated. Bracingly intense, gracefully complex, niftily integrated. makes me want to find more beers from these people.
