König Ludwig Weissbier

Tonight's beer: König Ludwig Weissbier

König Ludwig Weissbier

Tart pale fruits—bright citrus blended with bananas—backed by dark spices like cloves and allspice. Pale bread touched with caramel and toast slightly submerged. Vague impressions of smoke and bubblegum. Dries out through the finish, with a brief flash of floral-grassy bitterness.

Light-bodied, silky-smooth, brightly-carbonated. Softly puckering, immensely refreshing, gently drying. Cleansing and scrubbing, with a trace of bready stickiness.

I love hefeweizens, and this is a superb one, as one would expect from a brewery owned by the Prince of Bavaria. Stunningly drinkable, and delicious from start to finish: intense, complex, balanced, integrated. I'm wondering how this beer would go with good, and I'm suspecting it would go well, with the right food.
