Tonight's beer: Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale
Toast, bread, caramel, making spices (mostly cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger). A flicker of bitter citrus, and some earth, grass, peat, ash; maybe some molasses in the distance. Sweet to start, then spicy, then surprisingly dry.
Medium-bodied, kinda chewy, decently carbonated. A little bit of bready stickiness, gently drying and cleansing. More filling and satisfying than refreshing.
A spiced holiday cookie of a beer, just as the brewery intended. Very drinkable; intensely and complexly flavorful. Lots of stuff, balanced and nicely integrated. Delicious from start to finish. Probably the biggest reason to buy the Winter Classics 12-pack. Certainly the main reason *I* buy it every year.
