Angry Cedar Chocolate Porter

Tonight's beer: Angry Cedar Chocolate Porter

Angry Cedar Chocolate Porter

Dark bread and caramel on top, with a substantial (entirely pleasant, and entirely appropriate for a porter) stale/tangy undertone. Roasty impressions—mostly chocolate, maybe a hint of coffee somewhere—in the interstices. Earthy-peaty-grassy bitterness musters a brief hurrah right around the finish. Never all that sweet, but the beer does manage to dry out a little through the aftertaste.

Kinda bready-thick and chewy, but not really heavy or dense. A bit round, and softly drying. Filling and satisfying, and a bit refreshing. Some stickiness makes for a very long finish, tending some to the syrupy.

A very drinkable Porter, with chocolate adding complexity but not over-dominating every single other thing in the beer. Plenty intense, for a 4.5% ABV beer: the phrase "good flavor-to-booze ratio" comes to mind. Really comes across as a good social beer, great for drinking and hanging out with friends. Quite yummy. I'm happy to have had the chance to try it.
