Elysian Valhalla

Tonight's beer: Elysian Valhalla

Elysian Valhalla

Floral-lemony-citrussy bitterness, threaded with grass and pine; kinda explosive to start. Dome caramel-toasty-bready sweetness hovering in the background. Flickers of spice and pulpy juice around the perimeter. Bitter, then a flash of sweet, then bitter again and very dry.

Medium-bodied, with a surprising amount of chewy texture; nicely carbonated. Drying almost to the point of blistering, intensely scrubbing—just about scouring—and eventually in the vicinity of refreshing.

An intensely lemony-citric hoppy amber ale, with enough other notes to make for something like a chord. Has the typical moderate lack of balance for an American beer with "IPA" on the label. Plenty drinkable; it's possible (probably probable) that the really lemony hops don't work all that well for me, but that's more me than it is the beer. It's an excellent beer, in every other way.
