Green Flash Palate Wrecker

Tonight's beer: Green Flash Palate Wrecker

Green Flash Palate Wrecker

Explosively bitter to start: pine and grapefruit, with touches of orange and other citrus; flowers and grass; threads of musk, melons, other tropical fruits; grace notes of spice. Bready-caramel-toasty sweetness firmly in the background, making for something almost approaching balance. That brief flicker of sweet vanishes almost instantly in the face of a long bitter/drying finish.

Just a little on the bready-thick side of medium-bodied, with ample lively carbonation. great big wads of resinous stickiness, drying to the point of parching. Maybe a dim boozy-warming glow—nothing like what I'd expect for 9.5% ABV.

On. My. Gawd. Stunningly bitter, but amazingly drinkable; intense and impressively complex; not particularly balanced but beautifully integrated. Sneaky-subtle about the alcohol payload. Utterly delicious, from start to finish. Clearly, I needed a Double IPA tonight, and this is one of the best.
