Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Black Cannon
Closely matched wads of roast and toast, pine and grass and citrus and flowers. Traces of caramel, in with the chocolate and coffee, scattered all around. Bitter and roasty to start, then broadly dry. Dim spicy flickers in the distance.
Medium-bodied, strongly roasty-dry, with decent carbonation. Surprisingly cleansing, for such a dark beer. Plenty drying and eventually very refreshing.
One of my favorite Black IPAs, and one of the few that's anything like a sessionable beer. Delicious and *very* drinkable. Intense and complex, balanced and integrated. A solid benchmark for the style. I do love this beer, and I'm always happy to see it come around.
