Tonight's beer: Ninkasi Tricerahops
Starts with a dense slab of bitterness, citrus and pine on top of flowers and grass. Caramel-bready sweetness comes across as almost juicy with all the citrus from the hops. After that brief flirtation with sweetness, the flavor veers sharplyh into a vast uncharted desert somewhere at right angles to any reality that includes rain: yes, it's very, *very* dry.
Pretty light-bodied, with a good amount of carbonation. Drying as hell, but manages to be cleansing and refreshing. Not a lot of alcohol presence—just a little prickle. Hints of pulp and juice through the middle.
A delicious Double IPA. Intense and complex for days, especially if you like the nuances of the hops; nicely integrated, but tilted severely (if pleasantly) toward the bitter. Very drinkable, almost slurpable. If I lived where Ninkasi had distribution, this would be one of my go-to Double IPAs.
