Tonight's beer: Red Brick (Brick Mason Series) Wee Heavy
Smoky bready toast, solid slabs of caramel. Peat and earth back a step. Grassy floral bitterness struggles briefly into view, then staggers and falls face-down into a spicy-fruity puddle (mainly cloves and cinnamon, figs and raisins).
Kinda bready and thick, with carbonation a bit on the low side. Pretty chewy and sticky, tending toward the syrupy by the finish. It manages some drying, and a vague gesture toward cleansing (that last reminding me of a former roommate).
A delicious take on the style (Scotch Ale or, unsurprisingly, Wee Heavy). Maybe a bit heavy on the smoke, but nothing unpardonable. Pretty intense and complex; not so much balanced as explosively malt-bomby, but pretty nicely integrated for all-a-that. A nice bread pudding of a beer. I'll have to grab more by these folks (possibly more of this beer) next time I'm in Georgia.
