Tonight's beer: Stoudt's Fat Dog
Chocolate and coffee mingling up front, on a dark-bready-toasty platform, richly threaded with caramel. Earthy-peaty bitterness a complex background, with burnt fruits and ash lingering around the edges. A dim flicker of vanilla.
Rich and thick, dense and viscous and slick, softly carbonated. A little drying, thickly coating. Maybe a little boozy tingle toward the end of the finish. *Very* filling.
A big and rich and massive oatmeal-laden Imperial Stout. Massively drinkable, which could be a bad thing given the 8% ABV. Intense and complex, marvelously well-integrated; really, something of a malt-bomb—but an entirely pleasant one. It's nice to refresh my memory of a big stout I can typically find with no trouble at all. Delicious.
