Tonight's beer: Lagunitas WIlco Tango Foxtrot
Bitterness a bit on top—piney and citrussy, with floral and maybe grassy undertones. Sweet malt right behind, with caramel and dark-ish bread and kinda surprising grace notes of chocolate. Dim hints of something spicy-esque in the background. Bitter, then a trace of sweet, then dry like the Gobi.
Kinda chewy and thick, with pretty decent carbonation. A bit of stickiness, and a long, gently-drying finish. Maybe a touch of boozy heat, entirely appropriate for 7.85% ABV.
Yummy. Further proof to my mind that extraordinarily hoppy beers are better balanced (and often better) when they're darker. Nugget Nectar, Grainstorm, Wookey Jack; this. Intense and complex as hell, deliciously integrated and balanced. Deliciously drinkable. Tastes like Lagunitas (which makes sense if you've had more than one or two of their beers) and that's not a bad thing, as far as I'm concerned.
