Tonight's beer: Ölvisholt Brugghús Lava
Roasty all over the place—coffee and dark chocolate mingled and braided—with smoke right behind; dark bread, toast, caramel filling in the tapestry. Earth and grass, ass and peat more background impressions. Maybe a distant burnt-fruity flicker.
Pillowy-soft and chewy, nicely carbonated, a little on the heavy side. Thick and coating on the palate, eventually nicely drying. Some boozy warmth into the aftertaste, but pretty subdued for 9.4% ABV. Pretty smooth.
A delicious stout: tons of roasty character with smokey grace notes. Staggeringly intense and complex, nicely integrated and surprisingly well balanced. Pretty appropriate alcohol presence for a big stout, but carried well. Very drinkable, though it's really more of a sipping beer. Impressive.
