Tonight's beer: Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout
Lots and lots of chocolate, with threads of coffee; dark bread and caramel making for an almost-overwhelming sweetness. Vague impressions of earthy-grassy bitterness around the edges. While there's a lot of roasty character (mostly chocolate) in the beer, it's very sweet from start to finish.
Thick, syrupy-sticky, kinda chewy, softly carbonated. Very long finish, tending toward filling. A bit on the thickish side.
It's like a chocolate bar you can drink, with some alcohol in it. A surprisingly one-dimensional beer; there's more to it than the chocolate, but it takes some serious hunting hunting to find it. Pretty drinkable, if awfully sweet—this is one of the sweetest beers I've had.
