Tonight's beer: Brasserie D'Achouffe McChouffe

Brasserie D'Achouffe McChouffe

Lots of dark fruits—candied and/or dried: Cherries, raisins, prunes, figs, and the like—laced with some dark baking spices (mainly cloves, allspice, and cinnamon). Dark bread and toast solid through the middle, balanced (kinda sorta) by floral grassy bitterness. Distant possibilities of toffee and nuts.

Medium-ish-bodied, decently-carbonated. Some stickiness and some chewiness, not much alcohol presence. Gently drying, struggling toward refreshing.

A massively drinkable beer in a style with an odd history—it's easiest to describe this beer as a hybrid between a dubbel and a wee heavy. Intense and complex as heck, beautifully integrated and balanced. Not punishingly strong, but the 8% ABV will sneak up on you, if you let it. Delicious, completely.
