Tonight's beer: Clown Shoes Tramp Stamp
Lots of bitterness to start: citrus (mostly orange), pine, flowers, musk, melons, grass; exotic spices (galangal!), bread, caramel mingled in the background. Bitter, then a touch of almost-juicy sweetness, then bitter again and very dry.
Light-bodied, more or less, decently-carbonated, pretty smooth. Scrubbing and scouring, pretty cleaning after the long resinous-sticky finish. A little chewy through the middle, maybe. Drying and very refreshing.
A marvelous beer, beautifully drinkable. Tons of complex flavor, massively intense, nicely integrated if not particularly balanced (though even Belgian-style IPAs have a stylistic tilt to bitterness). The Belgian yeast and the orange peel add character without overwhelming everything else. The more beers I have from Clown Shoes, the more I like them as a brewery. Highly recommended; delicious from start to finish.
