Tonight's beer: Ommegang Witte
Tart up front—mostly but not entirely citrus—with pale bread, some bright spice, some peppery wheat. Earthy-grassy-floral bitterness appears around the middle, along with a dim flicker of caramel. Starts tart, turns bitter, finishes dry.
Very light-bodied, with lots (and lots) of carbonation. Tart, bordering on puckering. Clean and cleansing, practically scouring. Drying and massively refreshing.
A beautiful of a witbier. Intense and complex enough to make for a good flavor-to-booze ratio (especially at 5.2% ABV); nicely balanced and masterfully integrated. Drinkable for days, sessionable if that's what you want to do. Not a style that generally gets a lot of wows, but wow.
