Tonight's beer: Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Brewers Reserve Grand Cru

Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Brewers Reserve Grand Cru

Bready-toasty sweetness, strong dollops of caramel; grassy-floral bitterness striking an almost-perfect balance. Vanilla and butter (not the off-flavor, but how my palate parses deeply-caramelized malts, I'm sure) lurking around the edges. Distinct impressions of wet paper—there's almost certainly a bit of oxidation, but it's not a problem in a beer that's ~3 years old.

Smooth, with plenty of dense/fine carbonation. A little chewy, a little chewy; mostly clean, with practically no hint of the 9.2% ABV. Filling and massively satisfying.

This is one *seriously* impressive beer that has aged amazingly well. Scarily drinkable. I don't have specific memories of this beer fresh, but I do remember that the four beers were all excellent that that together they made for a great way for Sierra Nevada to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Tonight, this beautifully balanced and integrated beer, intense and complex as hell, made for a fabulous way for Sara and me to celebrate our second (a little late).
