Tonight's beer: Southern Tier Un*Earthly
Amazingly bitter—citrus (mainly grapefruit, a little orange) and pine up front, with grassy and floral undertones, flickers of spice. Some sweetness arises in the middle—some bread and caramel, vague juicy hints. Dries out quickly and thoroughly by the finish.
Light-bodied, with what feels like decent cleansing carbonation, but might be blistering hoppiness and/or alcohol. Scrubbing and cleansing and refreshing, with roughly no discernible boozy presence, given the 9.5% ABV. Powerfully drying.
Wow! This has long been one of my favorite beers, basically my go-to in the style; drinking a bottle just over two weeks old was something of a revelation. Intense for days and plenty complex, and nicely integrated if not on the same continent as balanced. Massively drinkable. I'm so happy we picked this up when we were by the brewery. Utterly delicious.
