Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher Insanity
Buttery-caramel and vanilla splashed on top of deeply-toasted bread. Some threads of maple and molasses struggling to emerge, with earthy-grassy bitterness making for something like unto balance. Solid whacks of bourbon character (other than the buttery-caramel and vanilla) strewn about. Pretty sweet most of the way; dries out a little through the finish.
A bit heavier than medium-bodied, pretty thick and soft, decently if gently carbonated. Distinct alcohol heat—not unpleasant, and appropriate for 11.1 % ABV. Kinda chewy and kinda sticky; a bit drying, mostly from alcohol (I think).
A solid barrel-aged barleywine. Still kinda hot—I suspect this would do well with some more time in the bottle. This is as hot a beer as I've had in a while, but it's pretty drinkable—more of a sipping beer, but a pleasant one. Intense as heck, and complex, too; pretty well-balanced, really, and should come together nicely (if I can muster the willpower not to drink it).
