Tonight's beer: Boulder Honey of a Saison
Bread, toast, caramel; substantial splotches of honey—dry and more mead-like than sweet—smeared around. Bright baking spices, some pale fruits like pears and apples and golden raisins lurking around the perimeter. Distant floral-grassy bitterness a dim possibility.
More or less medium-bodied, with a lot of stickiness—and not a lot of carbonation to help the beer break off the palate. Some gently drying through and after the finish, and a trace of alcohol heat.
Not all that saison-like, to be honest: very tasty, though (and more like a braggot based on a Belgian pale ale of some sort). Plenty intense and complex, with decent balance and grace. Nicely integrated, and drinkable enough to sip readily through an evening. Subtle and sneaky enough that the 11.5% ABV could make for an awkward and/or unpleasant surprise. Plenty nice on its own (more braggoty than saisonesque) terms, which are more straightforward than I was expecting.
