Anderson Valley Summer Solstice

Tonight's beer: Anderson Valley Summer Solstice

Anderson Valley Summer Solstice

Lots of caramel to start with, threaded with toast and pale-ish bread. Substantial vanilla right alongside. Gentle spices, and traces of flowers and grass, lurking around the perimeter. Really, a beer that starts pretty sweet and never strays far from that.

Medium-bodied, decently carbonated. A little chewy, with a touch fo syrupy stickiness. Softly drying. Finishes pretty clean and very refreshing.

A very drinkable and refreshing summer seasonal. Spiced, but not so heavily as to be dominated by it. Intensely and complexly flavorful; nicely integrated, and if not balanced at least poised. I'm pretty sure I've heard somewhere Anderson Valley uses the same spices in this as in their Winter Solstice (which I like a lot); I'd believe that. It's lighter in body, which is appropriate, I think, but it's very much in the same family. I like both beers plenty, and keep meaning to try others from the brewery.
