Great Divide 19th Anniversary Ale

Tonight's beer: Great Divide 19th Anniversary Ale

Great Divide 19th Anniversary Ale

Pretty bitter—grassy and floral, with traces of pine and citrus—backed up by pale-bready sweetness threaded with caramel. Dark woody and earthy presence lurks mostly in the background, comes forward a bit into and through the finish.

A little bit bready-thick, but very well-carbonated and not at all cloying. A little sticky, eventually pretty drying. A flicker of boozy warmth, but pretty subtle for 10.2% ABV.

A nicely drinkable big IPA-ish beer, in a sip-your-way-through-it way. Intetnse and complex—the birch is a nice touch, and well handled—nicely balanced and integrated. This is the fourth or fifth of Great Divide's anniversary beers I've had, and they've been subtly different between them, and all of them have been excellent. I'm always happy to drink to Great Divide's continued success.
