Heavy Seas Letter of Marque (2012)

Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Letter of Marque (2012)

Heavy Seas Letter of Marque (2012)

Pale-bready sweetness to start, with bright fruit and spice filling in around the perimeter. Juicy citrus and earthy-grassy bitterness emerge through the middle, right before the beer takes a sharp turn to the dry.

A little on the light side of medium-bodied, decently carbonated. a trace of bready chewiness and stickiness, especially through and after the finish. Pretty clean and refreshing, with very little alcohol presence.

A delicious and very drinkable Tripel: plenty intense and complexe, nicely balanced and integrated. Pretty true to style, as far as I can tell. This is a pretty impressive beer to have started as a homebrew recipe, even with a brewery like Heavy Seas providing material, technical, and logistical support. I'm kinda bummed that Heavy Seas stopped the Letter of Marque thing, but I'm still a fan. Yum!
