Tonight's beer: Southern Tier Plum Noir
Dark chocolate, earth, peat, dark bread. Dark dried/candied fruits evident but by no means prevalent—plums, yes, but also cherries and red grapes, with other possibilities around the perimeter; a flash of caramel and hints of grassy-floral bitterness around the finish. Darkly bitter, splashed with fruit, then rapidly dry.
Surprisingly light-bodied, and well-carbonated. A trace of syrupy stickiness but otherwise clean and cleansing; more refreshing than warming, despite the 8% ABV.
I make no secret that I'm a sucker for Southern TIer's beers, and this is no exception. Intense and complex, nicely integrated and balanced; delicious and drinkable. Some extra fruitiness from (I presume) the plums, but well contained and certainly of a piece. Yum.
