Tonight's beer: Clown Shoes Blaecorn Unidragon
Coffee and dark chocolate, traces of smoke and peat, on a solid structure of dark bread and caramel. Earth and grass and peat flickering behind, with impressions of burnt fruits and some dark spirits (rum, whiskey, brandy) and a trace of vanilla.
Pretty light-bodied for a 12.5% ABV stout, with decent carbonation. A bit of syrupy stickiness around the finish, but pretty clean. Surprisingly refreshing for the style and the strength, with just a flicker of boozy heat.
Yum! This is the first beer I've had from Clown Shoes that wasn't a hops-centric beer (though I suspect this is highly hopped, too) and I continue to be impressed bu these guys. I'm not sure if this is a thicvk as I'd expect for the style (Russian Imperial Stout, according to the label) but the flavor is definitely there. Intensely and complexly flavorful, nicely integrated and about as balanced as the style typically gets. Alcohol is subdued but not invisible. Delicious from start to finish, and deviously drinkable.
