DC Brau On the Wings of Armageddon

Tonight's beer: DC Brau On the Wings of Armageddon

DC Brau On the Wings of Armageddon

Bitterness detonates across my palate: Lots of pine, some musk; citrus and melons and tropical fruits woven thickly in; traces of flowers and of grass. Bready sweetness, with fruity and caramel ornaments, struggles out of the murk around the middle; the riptide of bitter pills it back in short order, right before the long and gradual and very dry finish.

Medium-bodied, with decent carbonation. Scrubbing and scouring; drying almost to the point of blistering. Lots and lots of resinous stickiness hangs around a long, long time.

So, a Double IPA with "Armageddon" in its name is a crazy-intense, wild, over-the-top hop grenade, and I somehow manage to be surprised. Go, me. I've had several in the style that were more complex, but practically none that were more intense (I got yer ruined and/or wrecked palate, right heah!). Nicely integrated, in the sense of holding together and reflecting the brewer's intent, but really not in the same universe as "balanced." A wild ride, for those who walk on the hoppy side; all others will probably want to give this a pass.
