Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XSteam
Bready and caramel sweetness, threaded with toffee and vague fruit; grassy-floral bitterness, specked with pine and spice, firmly opposed, rising up through the middle to the end. Starts out kinda sweet, transitions through kinda bitter to kinda dry.
Sorta thick, pretty smooth, softly carbonated. A little chewy and a little sticky. Maybe a dim flicker of boozy prickle. Gently drying and surprisingly refreshing; mostly clean and cleansing.
An impressively convincing California Common Beer, considering it's brewed to doppelbock strength; about the only giveaway is the thick and chewy body. Intense and complex, balanced and integrated, delicious from start to finish. I don't make a secret of my fandom for Southern Tier and their beers; this doesn't do anything to change that.
