Tonight's beer: Tuatara Helles Lager
Gently toasted/caramelized pale bread, maybe some flickers of toffee and nuts. Grassy-floral bitterness finely balanced against it, with threads of pine and bright almost-citrussy fruits. Starts toward the sweet, transitions smoothly and quickly to bitter and dry.
A little bready-thick and chewy, pretty smooth, gently carbonated. Tends toward drying, and remarkably refreshing. Just a little sticky around the finish.
A very nice and very drinkable Helles Lager—about the only complaint I'd have would be the opacity, which could be a serving-temperature thing, and is pretty minor in any event. More straightforward than complex (appropriately enough) and suitably intense, nicely integrated and balanced. Delicious, and about perfect for a warm summer night.
