Tonight's beer:

Weyerbacher Eighteen

Bright fruits (mainly bananas) and baking spices (mainly cloves and allspice) get things started. There's a lot of dark bread, layered with a lot of caramel, filling in, with threads of chocolate, earth, grass, flowers. Distinct rummish impressions lurking behind. Pretty sweet (if restrained about it) from start to finish.

Pretty close to medium-bodied, smooth, gently carbonated. Lots of boozy heat, about what I'd expect, given the 11% ABV. Thoroughly drying into and after the end; sticky for a long, long time thereafter.

It's nice to see Weyerbacher go for a German style for one of their anniversary beer. This isn't hte world's best weizenbock (I'm not sure it's on the same planet as Aventinus) but it's still quite tasty, and it suerves as a subtle and pleasant alcohol delivery system, on an evening when that's exactly what I need. I suspect it will age nicely, come together and grow up a bit.
