Weyerbacher Heresy

Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher Heresy

Weyerbacher Heresy

Dark bread, caramel, and vanilla to open things up, then the roasts emerge in the form/s of dark chocolate and strong coffee. Peat and smoke lurk in the background, along with earth and burn dark fruits. Starts mostly sweet, turns mostly (roasty) bitter, finishes mostly sweet; never really all one or the other, though.

Not much more than medium-thick, but quite dense and a little slick; decently carbonated. A hint of alcohol heat, about right for 8% ABV. A bit of stickiness through the end, gently warming.

A delicious and drinkable beer, less dominated by the whiskey barrel character than many others, but still more interesting for its time in the used wood. Plenty intense and complex, and about as balanced as one can reasonably expect, given what it is. I usually like Weyerbacher's beers a lot, and this is no exception. I didn't buy enough to age any, but I suspect it would take to that well.
