Tonight's beer: Harpoon Summer Beer
A brief flash of bready sweetness with undertones of caramel, then grassy-floral bitterness. Lemony hints around the perimeter. After that slight sweetness at the start, bitter then very dry.
Very light-bodied, with lots of carbonation. Quite drying and massively refreshing; clean and cleansing into and after the finish.
Very nice, and amazingly drinkable, the way a Kölsch should be. Nicely balanced and integrated, though "intense" would be kinda inappropriate for the style, and the beer is more straighforward than complex. It's hard to argue with a brewery that wants to brew a Kölsch as a summer seasonal, especially one as nice as this one. Yum.
