Ommegang Fleur de Houblon

Tonight's beer: Ommegang Fleur de Houblon

Ommegang Fleur de Houblon

Starts out with a blast of piney-grassy-citrussy-floral bitterness, then evolves to include pale fruits like pears and apples, some flickering spice, and some pale gently-toasted bread. Starts bitter, finishes pretty dry, but there's a counterpoint of sweetness throughout.

Very light-bodied, with lots of carbonation. Mostly clean, with a little bready stickiness toward the end. Tends toward drying and cleansing; immensely refreshing.

A delicious beer, laden with hoppy character (as one might infer fdrom the name) but with enough else going on that the overwhelming impression is of balance; the end result is stunningly drinkable. Holds together marvelously. A further reminder—as though I needed one—of why I love Ommegang so.
