Tonight's beer: Sierra Nevada Bigfoot (2013)
Starts with big slabs of bitterness: pine, citrus, flowers, grass, earth. Deeply-toasted bread, caramelized to the point my palate parses it as "buttery," shoulders forward around the middle. Traces of beat, and some flickers of whiskey-ish spirits, dance around the perimeter.
Thick, bready, chewy; decently carbonated. A little boozy prickle, pretty subdued for 9.6% ABV. Some stickiness through the finish, scrubbing and drying.
With a few months on it, this beer starts to taste like a recognizable Barleywine, if still one so hops-focused it has to be American. Intense as hell, and complex; nicely integrated and balanced. Drinkable, in a sipping beer way, and completely delicious.
