Tonight's beer: Southern Tier Compass
Starts out with citrussy-piney bitterness, with grassy and floral undertones. Some pale-bready sweetness through the middle. Dries out quickly and completely around the finish; a secondary tide of grassy-floral bitterness builds for a while in the aftertaste.
Medium-bodied, very well-carbonated. A little chewy and a bit sticky—resinous and syrupy. Powerfully drying, cleansing, immensely refreshing.
A delicious beer that sprawls comfortably across and between several style; saison, Belgian pale ale, American pale ale; maybe some sort of IPA. Complex and intense, nicely integrated and well-balanced. Drinkable as hell, with roughly no warning of the 9% ABV. Yet another superb beer from Southern Tier. And yes, I am a fanboy.
