Tonight's beer: Sweetwater Happy Ending (2013)

Sweetwater Happy Ending (2013)

Opens up with dark chocolate and coffee, with earthy-peaty threads. Caramel and fruit, grass and flowers, caramel and fruit rising right behind. Smoke, ash, and burnt fruit flicker around the periphery. Roasty-bitter, then some complex toasty sweetness, ends with some thick dryness that lingers and lasts and practically puts down roots.

Thick, chewy, sticky; syrupy and viscous; roasty drying. Roughly no warning of the 9% ABV. A finish that lasts and lasts, coating and smooth.

This is a delicious beer. Massively intense and complex, more subtle than one might come to expect; very well-integrated, and clearly poised if not exactly balanced. Distressingly drinkable, considering its sizable alcohol payload. I've had pretty good luck with Sweetwater's beers, but this is awesome. It kinda makes me wish I'd picked up a second bottle of this, because I bet it'd age superbly. Yum!
