Tonight's beverage: B. Nektar Evil Genius

B. Nektar Evil Genius

Honey sweetness, balanced by grassy-floral sweetness. Pine and citrus threads woven tightly in. The honey sweetness at the beginning transitions smoothly and swiftly to a rather stark dryness.

Pretty thin, but quite dense, and thoroughly carbonated. Softly drying and tending toward refreshing. Some scrubbing and cleansing around the finish, despite some lingering stickiness.

A tasty and interesting beverage. The interplay between the mead's sweet honey character and the hoppy bitterness makes for a more extreme dichotomy than most IPAs that are beers. Plenty intense, but probably more on the straightorward than complex; neatly balanced (or at least counterpoised) and integrated. Nicely drinkable, and worth giving a shot, if the idea of an IPA-style mead appeals at all.
