Tonight's beer: Brasserie Dupont Vielle Provision Cuvée Dry Hopping 2013
Starts out briskly—and surprisingly—bitter: grassy, floral, lemony-citrussy; threads of musk and earth and spice (mainly coriander) emerge later. Solid pale-bready sweetness present throughout, layered with dry pale fruits like apples and pears and nectarines. Bitter, then very thoroughly dry.
Light-bodied, explosively carbonated; almost shockingly drying, and massively refreshing. A brief juicy shot through the middle. A little sticky, but mostly clean; cleansing and scrubbing.
Wow. (Or maybe WOW!) The normal version of this beer is a treasure; this is an amazing beer. Blisteringly intense, and complex enough to get lost in; beautifully integrated and balanced. Drinkable to the point of slurpable (with no warning of the 6.5% ABV, if you're inclined to drink enough to get into trouble), but really a beer that demands and rewards close and slow attention; a miracle to be savored.
