Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer

Tonight's beer: Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer

Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer

Tightly-breaded chocolate and smoke, against a background of dark bread, toast, and caramel. Some coffee around the edges, with flickering hints of earth, peat, and burnt fruits. A gentle touch of vanilla, mostly in the aftertaste.

Just about medium-bodied, with decent carbonation. Surprisingly light-bodied for a big stout, though it has some syrupy stickiness around the finish. Distressingly little boozy heat for 10% ABV—as in, practically none.

A super-delicious, moderately smokey stout, only a little thinner than I was expecting for the style. Tons of complex flavor, plenty intense (though not breathtakingly so); beautifully integrated, bitter balanced upon bitter. Drinkable for as long as there's beer in the glass—longer, if you're not sharing the bottle; it's a difficult beer not to swig or slurp. Yet another excellent beer from Clown Shoes; I definitely think I'm a fan.
