Tonight's beer: Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence
Dark chocolate up front, rich and bittersweet; dark bread, toast, caramel right behind. Maybe a vague touch of coffee around the perimeter. Earth and grass, with grace notes of peat and smoke. Leather and tobacco woven into the background.
Not really dense, but thick and soft, with plenty of carbonation. A little syrupy-bready stickiness, but the finish is pretty clean. Surprisingly refreshing and graceful, gently drying.
A delicious, delicious beer, a beautiful reward after something of a busy day. About as close to a dessert beer as Ommegang brew. Intense and complex, beautifully integrated and nicely balanced; deliriously drinkable. Ommegang *are* one of my favorite breweries, and this beer is yet another reason why.
