Samuel Adams Octoberfest

Tonight's beer: Samuel Adams Octoberfest

Samuel Adams Octoberfest

Lots of toasty caramel, some pale bread in the backbone. Enough grassy-floral bitterness to make for something like balance, sort of. Toffee and nuts filling in some gaps, with maybe some earth and peat thrown in for kicks.

Medium bodied, softly carbonated. Some bready chewiness and some syrupy stickiness into the long and almost juicy finish. A little refreshing, some drying around the very end.

A delicious and very drinkable malt-focused lager. Though the balance is a little skewed, the beer is very well-integrated; the flavor is moderately intense, and pretty complex for the style. Very drinkable with is plenty appropriate for the style. Samuel Adams catches some shit among craft beer aficionados, some of it deservedly; the beers they do well, however, they do very well. This is a beer they do very well.
