Sierra Nevada Tumbler

Tonight's beer: Sierra Nevada Tumbler

Sierra Nevada Tumbler

Toast and smoke, backed by caramel and pale bread. Earthy-peaty-grassy bitterness a solid balancing presence. Dim hints of oddments like nuts, toffee, dried fruits, chocolate, and coffee throughout.

Medium-bodied, maybe a little bit thicker; a bit chewy and sticky. Decently carbonated, pretty cleaning; surprisingly refreshing. Finishes pretty smooth and gently drying.

A delicious brown ale, practically autumn in a bottle. Oktoberfest lagers and pumpkin ales are fine, too, of course, but this smells and tastes like a campfire in the woods as the leaves are turning overhead. Intense and complex—the flavor-to-booze ratio here is impressive—and nicely balanced and integrated. Drinkable as heck, and the beer plays well with good red meat, too.
