Tonight's beer: Stone 17 Götterdämmerung IPA

Stone 17 Götterdämmerung IPA

There's a lot of bitterness here, and as advertised it's reminiscent of a Pilsner—sort of. There grass and flowers are there, but there's also a lot of pine and citrus, and some off almost-tropical impressions. Lots of sweetness—bready, caramelly, slightly crackery—in the backbone. Finishes up in the process of drying out, but never quite gets there.

Maybe a little heavier than medium-bodied, leaning toward pillowy softness. Decent carbonation, gently drying. Almost refreshing, with a long gently-sticky finish.

A tasty Double IPA that manages to make the Teutonic Schtick in the nomenclature worthwhile. Skirts spryly between and among styles that are themselves interstitial: Imperial Pilsner and India Pale lager. Intense, and surprisingly complex; niftily balanced and integrated. Very drinkable, with the 9.5% ABV carried with subtlety and grace. I frequently find Stone's beers kinda meh, but this is *nice*.
