Tonight's beer: Tröegs Flying Mouflan
Lots of dark toast, almost burnt, lots of caramel. Dim flickers of roast, mainly chocolate. Plenty of grassy-earthy bitterness, with traces of flowers. There's a distinct papery/cardboardy presence throughout; I think that's oxidation, and it seems to be pretty thorough. The beer stays mostly on the sweet side, though it does dry out a bit by the end.
Just on the heavy side of medium-bodied, decently carbonated. Kinda chewy and syrupy-sticky, gently drying. Remarkably little alcohol presence, for 9.3% ABV.
A very tasty Barleywine (or Barleywine-ish beer), probably has about much time in the bottle as I'd want it to: the oxidation is a bit harsh, and its only likely to get worse. Intense and complex, decently balanced and integrated. Very drinkable, even with the oxidation. I'm a big fan of Tröegs, and this beer reflects why. I should see if I can get some more of this.
