Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher Sixteen
Honey, richly spiked with loads of dried/candied fruits: cherries, bananas, figs, apples, pears, grapes, plums; dark bread and deeply-toasted caramel merging and blending in, with a dollop of brandy. Dim sparkles of spice, peat, earth, grass, smoke, peat, and leather. Starts very sweet, then dries out slowly but pretty thoroughly; never more bitterness than a flickering counterpoint.
Tends toward light-bodied, gently carbonated and a little round on the palate. Softly drying, with some mild boozy warmth. Still manages to get pretty close to refreshing, even if it's a bit sticky to be called clean.
An utterly delicious beer, close to a very good quad in overall character. Staggeringly complex, and surprisingly intense; beautifully well-integrated if tilted substantially toward sweet. Strong, but supple and subtle; astonishingly drinkable. This has been sitting around for about two years, and for a style that's not supposed to age all that well (braggot) it's aged quite well.
