Terrapin Wake and Bake

This afternoon's beer: Terrapin Wake and Bake

Terrapin Wake and Bake

Yup, it's a coffee-bomb. Strong dark coffee, possibly espresso, leveling everything in its path. Some burnt toast and very dark caramel—practically molasses. Flickers of earth, peat, smoke, off in the distance. Very roasty-bitter, then an eternity of roasty-dry.

Very thick, very dense; more than a little slick, but still somehow sticky and coating. Pretty smooth, lightly carbonated. A little boozy prickle, not something that's going to grab most people as packing 8.1% ABV (until it's much, much too late).

Very tasty, and an excellent alternative to a second cup of coffee on a day when there's not a lot happening. Screamingly intense, pretty complex; while the coffee is nicely integrated into the beer, it's very much the dominant strand, here (and this, in a beer that's been sitting around since at least January; makes me kinda nervous what this must be like fresh). Delicious, but not what I'd call "balanced." One of the beers Terrapin are noted for, and for good reason.
