Tonight's beer: 21st Amendment Back in Black
Piney and grapefruity bitterness wrapped in coffee and dark chocolate; dark toast, flowers, grass threaded and woven in. Maybe a hint of burnt fruit around the back end. Richly bitter from start to finish, and wraps up quite dry.
Medium-bodied, maybe a little thicker; soft and trending toward thick. Chewy and a little sticky, but massively drying and surprisingly refreshing. Long a lingering finish, scrubbing and scouring.
A very nice Black IPA, reasonable enough (at 6.8% ABV) as far as alcohol content that it's not too big to serve at table: It goes well with, e.g., good roast beer. Intense and complex, nicely balanced and integrated. Drinkable almost to the point of slurpable. Very impressive.
